Leading up to the 2008-09 ETSU women's basketball season, the ETSU media relations office, with help from graduate assistant Lindsay Christensen, will feature player profiles on all 12 of the Lady Buccaneer student-athletes. This new segment allows fans to catch a glimpse of what each player is doing off the court, as the Lady Bucs look to make a run at their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Tara Davis spent time away from her busy schedule to continue with the weekly segment called "A Day in the Life of."

One thing sophomore guard Tara Davis takes great pride in is helping others.

Davis, a pre-nursing major, has to find a way to balance a difficult class schedule; while also making time for practice.

After graduating from ETSU, the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native wants to work as a nurse anesthetist, and eventually, become an anesthesiologist.  She feels a hospital setting is perfect for her, because it gives her the opportunity to be around people all the time and make them feel better.

When asked about her childhood, Tara says, "I have always wanted to become a doctor. I have been fascinated with the medical field and now I want to be able to make a career of it."

Now, her goals have adjusted, but her purpose remains the same.

"I want to be able to help others and make people around me better," commented Davis. "I try to make a difference in the every day lives of those around me."

Fortunately, for Davis, she has begun to make an impact on others here at ETSU; however, the mark is being set on the basketball court. Davis has coached AAU basketball for the past two summers. In only her second year of coaching, she has already made big strides, as she coached a nine and under team to a national title.

Davis takes her inspiration from coaches she has played for in the past. One person who stuck out in Davis' mind was, coach Grandstand. When coaching with her own young athletes, Davis uses some of the tools she learned from Grandstand to help her team become better people, both on and off the court. In the end, Davis wants her players to be able to look up to her and view her as a role model. She wants to come off smart and bold, and she feels it is important to be caring. Davis works hard to make the right representation of herself to her players; however, when the day is done she wants them to learn as much from her as she does from them.

"My players show me what real dedication is," said Davis. "The nine year olds hit the gym early, stay late, and give everything they have during practice. It is a privilege to be able to coach them."

Tara takes pride in motivating these young players, and teaching them all she can about the game.

"It is fun to impact them and to be a role model," Davis says.

Besides her coaches and players, it has been Davis' family who also give her motivation. Her mom, she says, is her "biggest fan." Davis' entire family shares love for the sport, though some would rather watch than play. Her family also has the same competitive drive, and they are all incredibly supportive of Tara's basketball career.

Despite balancing class, basketball, and coaching, Davis still finds time to enjoy new things. Davis' newest addition is finding time to enjoy a good book, which she uses to relax and clear her mind.

Though reading a text book is not the same as reading a novel, Davis seems to make it work. Last season she received Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors and now she hopes to continue to push herself to new levels both in the classroom and on the court.

As Tara continues through her college career, it is likely that she will make an impact not only on the court, but also in the classroom.
