Jacksonville proves too much for Bucs, 3-1
Friday, September 19, 2008
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team fell to Jacksonville after jumping out to an early lead Friday night in Brooks gym, 3-1 (25-20, 29-31, 29-31, 17-25) .
"I think our players thought they had it won," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "When the game was on the line we played it cautious, and you can't do that. I hope that our young team will learn that you don't give your opponent any hope. When you are ahead you have to keep going at them and be aggressive. We can't let opportunities pass us by, and unfortunately we let this one slip by us."
The Bucs (3-8, 0-4 A-Sun) were led offensively by Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) who tallied 12 kills. Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) each had 11 kills for the Bucs as Barber collected six blocks and Stancliff had three blocks.
Junior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had a double-double for the second consecutive match, as she had 23 assists and 13 digs, while earning nine kills. Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) led ETSU with 28 assists and had seven kills. Defensively Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) led the Bucs in the back row with 18 digs.
ETSU is back in action tomorrow taking on North Florida at 3 p.m. in Brooks Gym. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU volleyball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
