JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 14, 2008) - The ETSU volleyball team locked up the fifth seed in the Atlantic Sun tournament on Friday night, defeating Campbell in the season finale at Brooks Gym, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22).

"It's great to finish at home with a win," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "I thought that the team played with a lot of intensity and heart from begging to end. Again people made key plays at key times in the match."

The Bucs (11-19, 7-13 A-Sun) were led offensively by Mallory Kiley (Palm Harbor, Fla.) as she tallied a team high 15 kills. Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) had 11 kills in the match, while Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) and Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) each had ten kills.

Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) quarterbacked the ETSU offense collecting 44 assists, while Whitney Cogburn (Kingsport, Tenn.) came up one kill short of her third double-double of the season as she had nine kills and ten digs.

Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) led the Bucs defensively with 16 digs. Freshman Jen Neice (Allen, Texas) also had double-digit digs with 15.

"I was really pleased that Jamie and Mallory had great games as the match progressed," Devine said. "Dani made a key dig for us, and we are making great improvements as we head to the conference tournament next week. I am really proud of this program and the team, and we are looking to do great things next week."

ETSU took an early 6-4 lead after a 6-2 run. The Camels battled back to retake the lead 13-12 after a 6-2 run of their own, but the lead didn't last long as the Bucs went on an 8-1 run to take a commanding 22-16 lead. ETSU closed out the set on a couple kills from Ryan to make the score 25-19.

In the second set, Campbell jumped out to an early 6-4 lead after a 6-2 run. The Camels increased their lead to 12-8 after another 6-2 run, but ETSU was able to tie things at 14-all after answering with a 6-2 run. Campbell then went on its third 6-2 run of the set taking a 20-16 lead. The Camels extended their lead to 23-18 after a couple ETSU errors. The Bucs then rallied taking the next four points to cut the Campbell lead to 23-22, but the Camels got the next two points to take the set, 25-22.

Play was back and forth to start the third set, and with Campbell up 7-6 the Bucs went on an 8-1 run to take a 14-8 lead. ETSU extended its lead to 20-13, but the Camels went on a 5-0 run to cut the Buccaneer lead to 20-18. The Bucs then got some big kills from Stancliff and Dyck to put the set away, 25-21, and go up 2-1 in the match. Kiley led ETSU with six kills in the set.

The Bucs came out on fire in the fourth set jumping out to a 7-2 advantage. ETSU extended its lead to 15-7 after a 7-3 run, but Campbell again answered with a 6-1 run to cut the lead to 18-17. The Bucs got a couple key kills from Stancliff down the stretch, and put the match away on a Dyck kill to make the final 25-22. Stancliff led ETSU offensively in the set with six kills hitting an impressive .600 clip (6-0-10).

The Bucs are back in action next week as they head to the Atlantic Sun conference tournament in Macon, Ga. where they will take on either Mercer or Jacksonville. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU volleyball and all other Buccaneer athletic news.
