MERIDA, Venezuela (May 20, 2009) - With former senior teammate Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) competing in his second straight NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday, the ETSU men's tennis team continued to show why it's one of the top collegiate programs around as former Buccaneer standout Sebastian Serrano (2005-2008) won his first-ever ATP Futures tour point Tuesday, defeating Juan Carlos Ceballos at the $10,000 Venezuela F2 Futures Championship in Merida, Venezuela.

In just his second event of his pro career Serrano earned his first point in the five-round event that featured 12 ATP players which were ranked in the top-900 of the tour.

"I wouldn't expect anything less from Sebastian," said ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini. "He's put in a lot of hard work and has it in his mind that he wants to try to play professionally. I'm extremely satisfied for what he did for us during his career at ETSU. He got his degree and he's a young enough player to test the waters of the pro circuit."

During his four-year career for the Bucs Serrano led ETSU to four regular season conference championship and was named an Atlantic-Sun Conference First-Team member in 2008. Serrano's most memorable season for ETSU was in 2007 as the Cartagena, Colombia native posted a 30-6 singles record, which ranks as the eighth best single season in program history.
