JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 23, 2009) - After opening the season winning 20 matches last weekend at the Duke Invitational, the ETSU men's tennis team will open its dual match season as they travel down I-81 to face in-state rival Tennessee with a 10 a.m., match Saturday at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

The 37th-ranked Bucs are coming off a strong performance in Durham, N.C., as ETSU won the majority of its match against No. 20 North Carolina, No. 39 Duke and Elon. Leading the way for the Bucs in doubles play was the ETSU duo of freshman Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) and sophomore Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) who finished the three-day event in third place with eight points. In singles action Teraz also led the Bucs as he won all three of his singles contests finishing seventh.

Tennessee comes into the contest after winning the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Singles and Doubles Championships last weekend. The eighth-ranked Volunteers looked strong as sophomore John-Patrick Smith took the singles title, while Smith and teammate Davey Sandgren railed to win the doubles championships.

On the of the most anticipated matches of this weekend should be at the No. 1 singles position  between Tennessee's Smith and ETSU senior Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela). The ninth-ranked Olivares and Smith have split both their matches between each other in the past. Olivares knocked off Smith at the prestigious D'Novo/ITA All-American this fall, while Smith got the better of the two All-Americans defeating Olivares in the NCAA Singles Championships last May.

Live scoring will be available through the Tennessee athletics website attached above. For more information on the ETSU men's tennis program please visit www.ETSUBUCS.com.
