CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 13, 2009) - Junior right-hander Darci Gilbert (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) tossed her second straight shutout and Trisha Massenzo's (Russellville, Tenn) RBI single in the bottom of the first proved to be the game winner, as ETSU blanked George Washington 2-0 on Friday afternoon at the 2009 Under Armour Invitational from Eddie C. Moore Field. However, the Lady Bucs couldn't pull off the sweep, as Boston University dealt ETSU a 3-1 loss in the second game.

Gilbert, who was coming off a three-hit shutout performance at Charleston Southern on Monday, limited the Colonials to only two hits and pushed her record to 5-2 on the year.

Overall, the Lady Bucs moved their record to 12-5 with the split, and ETSU looks to bounce back into the win column on Saturday morning against Florida International.

Gilbert faced the minimum through the first four innings and took a no-hitter into the fifth before Tori Sensi's leadoff single to short broke up the bid for a no-no. However, the Murfreesboro, Tenn. native wasn't fazed by the hit and retired the next three George Washington (6-10) hitters she faced and left Sensi stranded at second.

From there, Gilbert retired the side in the sixth and faced some trouble in the seventh, but the hurler was able to ease her way to a fifth win of the season. The Colonials led off the frame with a walk and Carrie Higdon advanced to second on Sensi's second single of the game, but after the base nock Gilbert induced the next two George Washington hitters to pop out and end the contest.

The Lady Bucs did their damage in the first and fifth innings against George Washington. Katy Jett (Talbott, Tenn.) led things off with a single in the bottom half of the first and advanced to second on the play. Then, Massenzo stepped up with a clutch two-out single down the left field line, giving ETSU the early 1-0 lead as Jett came around to score.

Little did ETSU know the one run would be the only offense needed to win the game; however, Jett's two-out RBI double in the fifth scored junior Cheniece Cason (Moreno Valley, Calif.) - giving the Lady Bucs a two-run cushion.

Gilbert extended her consecutive scoreless IP streak to 14 straight after tossing back-to-back shutouts. Amanda Gabriel suffered the loss (3-4) after tossing a complete game and allowing two runs on seven hits.

Jett's 2-for-3 effort marked her fourth multi-hit game of the season, and the junior second baseman has now hit safely in seven of her last eight games.

ETSU returned to the diamond shortly after knocking off George Washington, but Boston University spoiled the day with a 3-1 win over the Lady Bucs.

Stats were not available following the conclusion of game two and will be posted later on this evening.

The Lady Bucs return to action on Saturday morning when ETSU takes on Florida International at 11 a.m. Following their game with the Golden Panthers, the Lady Bucs will then face Long Island at 1 p.m.
