Monday, September 22, 2008
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 22, 2008) - Sophomore Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) fired a second round 3-under-par 69 to go with a first round 2-over 74 and finished tied for third place on the individual leaderboard during Monday's first day in the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the Shoal Creek Country Club.
Enoch, who finished two strokes off the individual pace of leader Zack Sucher from UAB, powered the 18th-ranked ETSU men's golf team to a tie for sixth place in the 12-team field. Big 12 Conference member Baylor leads the event at 5-over 581, eight strokes better than second place LSU and 15 strokes better than the Buccaneers.
"Shoal Creek is a difficult golf course and par is a really good score. They've hosted two PGA events here," said ETSU head coach Fred Warren. "Rhys played very well and had one of the best rounds of the day. As for the team, we're going to go out there tomorrow and do what we can to move up."
Along with Enoch, junior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) is tied for 18th at 5-over for the tournament (76-73=149), while senior Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) and freshman Devin Komline (Dorset, Vermont) are tied for 31st at 8-over for the event.
The Bucs will continue with third and final round play on Tuesday. Fans can watch live scoring by visiting Golfstat.com, while ETSUBucs.com will have a complete wrap up following the day's play.
