JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 19, 2008) - Bolstered by a win in the South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational and a second place showing at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate earlier this month, the ETSU women's golf team continued its historic climb up the national rankings, moving to an all-time best of No. 42 in this week's Golfstat.com computer rankings.

"Continuing our ascension to the top of the NCAA Division I rankings is very rewarding for our team," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds Shelton, whose team has gone from 148th in the country to 42nd during her tenure. "We take pride in every rewritten chapter in the ETSU Women's Golf record books."

So far this season, the Buccaneers have seven finishes of sixth or better in eight events, including a first place, two second place, and one third place showing. In addition, sophomore Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) became the second ETSU woman ever to win an outright individual championship, capturing the title at the South Alabama event.

"While we are extremely proud of reaching another milestone, our ultimate goal is to be among the elite golf programs in the country," Reynolds Shelton said. "We view this as another step towards that goal. We have overwhelming support from the community, friends, and family, and we want all to feel pride in this new achievement."

The team will return to action March 31 in the John Kirk/Lady Panther Intercollegiate. For more on ETSU women's golf throughout the fall season, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the women's golf link.
