Thursday, August 16, 2007
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 16, 2007) - First-year men's soccer head coach Scott Calabrese announced Thursday afternoon that he would be holding open tryouts for the school's upcoming inaugural season of men's soccer.
Tryouts will begin Monday August, 27 and last through Friday August, 31 - Tryouts will be held on the Practice fields adjacent to the CPA building. They will start at 3:30pm sharp.
"I am excited to get the club team program underway for the fall season," said Calabrese. "This year is a great opportunity to develop and prepare a group of young players for the demands of playing Division I college soccer in the fall 2008. Our schedule this fall will include a number of university club team tournaments and strong regional opponents. One of our goals will be to qualify for the NIRSA National Tournament in November and represent Region II in
The plan for the club program is to form two groups. The club "A" team will train 4-5 times per week with games on the weekends. It will consist of players whose ability and dedication deserve consideration for the 2008 varsity program. The "B" team will train twice a week and play select matches in a competitive environment but won't have the same level of time commitment.
Participants should bring molded cleats, shin guards and water bottle. All participants in the club team and club team tryouts must be currently enrolled ETSU Students. There are no exceptions.
The Bucs will begin competition this season as a club program before entering the Atlantic Sun Conference as a scholarship program for the 2008 campaign.
