Western Carolina blanks Stetson, 2-0 at ETSU Invitational

(Sept. 14, 2007) - The Western Carolina Catamounts defeated the Stetson Hatters, 2-0 on day one of the ETSU Invitational presented by Citizens Bank. The Catamounts improve to 4-2-0 overall while the Hatters fall to 1-2-1.

 

In the first half, the Catamounts outshot Stetson, 6-1 but both defenses continued to battle as they remained in a 0-0 deadlock going into halftime.

 

Stetson battled early in the second half outshooting Western Carolina 6-2, but Catamount freshman Courtney Mallon scored two goals within three minutes to give Western Carolina the victory.

 

For Western Carolina Heather Dittmer, Shannon Fowkes and Courtney Mallon all had two shots, while keeper Caitlin Williams made four saves.

 

For Stetson Sarah Stock and Stephanie Webb each had two shots while keeper Andrea Garavaglia made two saves.

 

The final day of the ETSU Invitational will begin at Noon as Stetson takes on Tennessee Tech, while Western Carolina will face ETSU at 4 p.m.
