KENNESAW, Ga. (Nov. 7, 2007) - The ETSU women's soccer team earned their first ever post-season victory as they defeated the Stetson Hatters, 2-1 on Wednesday night at KSU Soccer Complex. The Bucs improve to 11-5-3, while the Hatters fall to 8-10-1.

The Bucs took a 1-0 lead early in the first half as Terri Miller (Cape Coral, Fla.) connected with Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) and Meredith Goldman (Knoxville, Tenn.) from inside the box to blast the ball past Stetson keeper Andra Garavaglia during the third minute of play.

Stetson battled back as they were able to tie the match 1-1 when Emily Ware netted her first goal of the season from Heather Berg in the 25th minute.

In the second period both teams continued to battle it out but it was the Bucs who were able to convert during the 73rd minute when Monty slipped past the keeper on a cross from Katie Green (Knoxville, Tenn.). It would prove to be the game-winning goal as the defenses battled it out for the remaining time.

Offensively Monty led the Bucs with three shots, one goal and one assist while Miller had two shots and one goal. Freshman Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) also contributed two shots on the night. Goalkeeper Rachel Van Horn (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) made 12 saves for the Bucs.

With their two goals Monty and Miller each now have 11 goals on the season and are one away from trying the single season record of 12 goals set by Erin Ashton (New Bern, N.C.) in 2002. Monty's goal was also her fifth game-winning goal of the season.

For the match Stetson outshot the Bucs 25-10 while each team earned six corner kicks.

"Stetson did a great job pressuring us tonight and it was a battle the whole night just like during the regular season," said head coach Heather Henson. "We made an adjustment at the half and we were able to come out and execute it and convert that opportunity."

With the victory the Bucs have advanced to the semifinal round where they will take on top-seed and host school Kennesaw State. The match will be shown live on Asun.TV at http://asun.playonsports.tv/etsu and is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Keep up with the ETSU women's soccer team by visiting www.ETSUBucs.com.
