JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 17, 2008) - Coming off its most successful season in school history the East Tennessee State University women's soccer team continued to show its character off the field earning a 3.45 team grade-point average this past spring. The Lady Bucs named 18 of its 22 student-athletes to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, 12 to the Dean's list, and had two players earn GPA of 4.0

"I am very proud of our team," said head coach Heather Henson. "We always stress the importance of excelling in the classroom as well as on the field and this semester these ladies took this to heart. Bob Baker, Director of Academic Services, and Maya McCoy, Learning Specialist, does an outstanding job with our team and it's good to see everyone's hard work pay off."

Earlier this year ETSU's women's soccer team received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) team academic award earning a 3.25 GPA for the entire 2007-08 season. Hannah Johnson and Katie O'Bryan, seniors on this past women's soccer team, both earned degrees in May. Johnson earned a Bachelor's of Arts Degree (Magna Cum Laude) from the ETSU College of Education and will pursue a master's degree in communication disorders here in Johnson City, while O'Bryan received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Exercise Science and will pursue a master's degree in physical therapy at Old Dominion University.

"Our team continues to set new and higher standards for our soccer program in the classroom. Over the past couple of years I think the attitude that we have had academically are helping us be successful on the field. Our goal as a soccer program is to help our players win the right way in every aspect of their lives and these ladies are truly doing that to the best of their abilities."

In addition to these accomplishments, 15 Lady Bucs soccer members were named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic team for 2007-08. Players receiving this honor were Jennifer Altimier, Danielle Bayles, Kelly Brinkman, Caitlyn Epps, Meredith Goldman, Jessica Huntington, Hannah Johnson, Morgan Jutras, Kia Kindell, Alexandra Meehan, Terri Miller, Jordan Monty, Katie O'Bryan, Krista Toliver and Rachel Van Horn.  "
