Lady Bucs fall to Georgetown, 75-52

WASHINGTON, DC (Dec. 22, 2007) - Georgetown outscored ETSU by 14 points in the final 20 minutes on their way to a 75-52 victory over the Lady Bucs on Saturday afternoon inside McDonough Arena.  With the loss, ETSU drops to 3-7 on the season, while Georgetown improves to 8-2.

 

Despite the loss, freshman Kami Phillips (Augusta, Ga.) scored a team-high and season-high 10 points. Sophomore guard Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) chipped in nine, ending her streak of scoring double digits at nine. Georgetown had three players score in double figures, with Kieraah Marlow leading the pack with 14 points.

 

The Lady Bucs started out slow in the first half and the Hoyas enjoyed a 14-4 advantage with 13:41 remaining in the half but ETSU used a 18-9 run to close the gap to 23-22 with 2:22 left to go in the half. However Georgetown put together a 9-0 run at the end of the period to lead 31-22 at the intermission.

 

The Lady Bucs hit 10-of-26 of their shots (38.5 percent) in the first half but struggled at the free throw line going only 1-of-4. On the other side, Georgetown made 40.7 percent of its shots from the field (11-27) and shot 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.  

 

In the second half, Georgetown opened up with a 12-2 run to increase their lead to 19 (43-24). Their lead would balloon to 28 when Jaleesa Butler hit a jumper with 3:51 left in the game. The Lady Bucs would end the contest on a 13-8 run to fall by 23.  

 

For the contest, ETSU shot 36.2 percent from the field (21-58); while the Hoyas hit 29-of-63 shots (46 percent). Georgetown out rebounded the Lady Bucs grabbing 43 boards while ETSU finished with 34.
