KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 16, 2007) - The ETSU women's tennis team wrapped up play at the St. Mary's Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee on Saturday. The Lady Bucs picked up four wins on the final day of competition.

Competing in flight one sophomore Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) earned a fifth place finish as she defeated Brooke Beier of Purdue, 6-4, 6-3. She finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.

In the second flight singles junior Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) cruised past Stephanie Parkinson of MTSU, 6-0, 6-2. In flight three, senior Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) breezed by MTSU's Elvira Yusapova, 6-3, 6-1.

Competing in the fourth flight newcomer Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) dropped to Marlene Chemin of MTSU after a hard fought match, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Senior Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) fell to Claudia Szabo of MTSU, 6-3, 6-0.

In the sixth flight Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) fell to MTSU's Ann-Kristen Siljestrom, 6-3, 6-1, while newcomer Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) defeated Shannon Hartman of MTSU, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 7-5 in the seventh flight.

Competing in the eighth flight Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) fell to Alejandra Boeker of Purdue, 6-2, 6-0, while Brittany Stewart (Nashville, Tenn.) fell to MTSU's Andrea Herrara, 6-2, 6-4 in the final round.

"I think we did ok today, Andra had a great match today, she bounced back from a set down but came back in the second set and used that momentum to carry over into the next set. Tara (Sheets) also played well today and just got a little tight and wasn't able to close it out. We've found some good things to work and I think that we are a good team this year and I'm excited to get ready for our tournament next weekend. This will be the 21st year we've hosted this tournament and it will be our largest yet and we are really excited to get back out on the courts to get ready for it," said coach Steve Brooks.
