Stupak earns ITA Southeast Regional Ranking

Friday, December 14, 2007

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 14, 2007) - Following a strong fall campaign, sophomore Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) has been ranked No. 27 in the Southeast Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Friday.

Stupak, who went 10-2 during fall tournament play, has defeated opponents from No. 12 North Carolina, No. 60 Virginia Tech, No. 39 Virginia and No. 47 Purdue. She also defeated No. 51 Yvette Hyndman of No. 4 Georgia.

"I am very excited for Yevgeniya. She works very hard both athletically and academically," said head coach Steve Brooks. "With five teams in the region being ranked in the top 20 nationally it is very hard to achieve regional rankings."

Stupak was also ranked regionally last season and is only the second member of the ETSU women's tennis team to ever earn a regional ranking. Former Lady Buc Kristy Pace-Wagner was ranked in 1995.

The Lady Bucs will open the 2008 season January 25 as they travel to Athens, Ga. to take on the University of Georgia.
