NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 7, 2008) - The Lady Bucs tennis team defeated A-Sun foe Belmont, 5-0 on Thursday night at the Wildwood Tennis Club. The Lady Bucs improve to 7-5 overall and 3-0 in conference action while the Bruins fall 3-6, 0-3.

In doubles action 56th-ranked Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) and Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Tatiana Pozo and Linda Johansson, 8-1 in the top position while Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) and Whitney Trotter (Guadalajara, Mexico) dropped Whitnie Warren and Katie Rhodes, 8-3 to claim the doubles point in the second slot. Competing in the No. 3 position Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) defeated Kelly Pence and Abby Leatherwood, 8-6.

The match was clinched when Tara Byrne defeated Tatiana Pozo, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 position. ETSU's last point was claimed when Olya Batsula dropped Whitnie Warren in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-1.

The five and six singles were cut short due to inclement weather surrounding the Nashville area. In the five singles Elena Volobueva was up one set 7-5 while Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) was in a tight 2-6, 5-0 battle.

"Belmont played us pretty well. It took the girls awhile to get used to the courts, the lighting was different. I'm just glad we were able to get the match in and it's an overall good win," said head coach Steve Brooks.

The Lady Bucs will take on Lipscomb on March 8. Follow all ETSU women's tennis action at www.ETSUBucs.com.
