JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 17, 2008) - The ETSU women's tennis team will look to win their second Atlantic Sun conference championship this weekend during the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament at the ETSU Tennis Center. The Lady Bucs (12-10, 8-3), enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will look for a rematch of last season's title game against top-seeded Jacksonville.
The 2008 A-Sun Tournament will mark the third postseason appearance for ETSU as members of the Atlantic Sun. The Lady Bucs are set to face No. 7 Mercer on Friday, April 18 at 11:30 a.m. When ETSU faced Mercer earlier this season they topped the Bears, 7-0. The first round match-up will be played at Milligan College.
Should the Lady Bucs advance to the semi-finals they will take on either No. 3 Stetson or No. 6 Gardner Webb. ETSU has already faced both teams this season defeating Stetson, 4-3 on March 15 and Gardner Webb, 6-1 on April 6.
During Thursday night's conference banquet five Lady Bucs were honored by the A-Sun office. Senior Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) and sophomore Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukraine) were both named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference First Team, while junior Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference Second Team. Andra Voinea (Brasov, Romania) and Tara Sheets (Gate City, Va.) were both named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team.
