Friday, October 19, 2007

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Oct. 19, 2007) - The doubles tandem of Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) advanced to the Round of 16 on Friday at the ITA Mideast Regional Championships hosted by the University of Virginia.

In the Round of 32, Olivares and Serrano defeated North Carolina's Sandeep Daiya and Tristan Heinrich, 8-6. They will take on Emil Lindgren and Sebastian Ripoll of Virginia Commonwealth in the Round of 16.

Also competing in doubles, Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) and Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) fell to North Carolina's Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy, 8-5 in the Round of 32.

In singles action senior Lisandro Picardo cruised past No. 114 Reid Carlton of Duke, 6-4, 6-2 before falling to No. 55 Nick Cavaday of North Carolina State, 6-3, 6-0 in the Round of 32.

Olivares fell to No. 65 Dominic Inglot of Virginia in a hard-fought three set match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Posada fell to North Carolina State's Jay Weinacker, 7-5, 6-1.

"Enrique just ran into a freight train today with his opponent. His serve was huge on the indoor courts. Oscar is playing so well and is really progressing well from his injury. Lisandro also pulled off a great upset today over his opponent from Duke. Overall I'm extremely happy with the level that the guys are playing at," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.

Olivares and Serrano will take the court at 1 p.m. for their match in the Round of 16 For all ETSU men's tennis action visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
