CHULA VISTA, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2007) - Powered by a trio of mid-70 scores, the ETSU women's golf team finds itself in contention following Monday's first round action in the Aztec Fall Classic hosted by San Diego State at the Salt Creek Golf Course. Final round action in the tournament will be played Tuesday.

Led by a 2-over-par 74 from sophomore Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland), a 3-over 75 from junior Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales) and a 4-over 76 from senior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia), the Bucs - who finished the day at 302 as a team - currently hold sole possession of third place on the team leaderboard. ETSU is just five strokes behind first place UC Irvine and one stroke back of Hawaii.

On the individual leaderboard, UC Irvine's Patty Chawalitmetha fired a 2-under 70 to hold a two-stroke lead over teammate Kim Lorenzana and Lisa Kajihara of Hawaii on the leaderboard. Individually, O'Sullivan is currently tied for seventh, Gould is tied for 15th and Giraldo is tied for 18th.

"We really had a solid round as a team," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds Shelton, whose team is making its farthest trip west of the Mississippi. "Having all five girls post scores in the 70s is nice and having four of them in the mid 70s is even better."

Along with O'Sullivan, Gould and Giraldo, senior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) finished tied for 31st at 5-over 77, while sophomore Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) ended the day at 79.
