Women's soccer works with ETSU Child Studies

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 27, 2007) - Last Friday the ETSU women's soccer team brought their tradition of working in the community to the ETSU campus. Seven members of the Buccaneer squad worked in the ETSU Child Studies Center helping with the infants and reading and playing with the toddlers.

Aubree Snyder (Reading, Pa.), Hannah Johnson (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), Ashley Craig (Lakeland, Fla.), Meredith Goldman (Knoxville, Tenn.), Rachel Layer (Bel Air, Md.), Kim Jones (Springfield, Va.) and Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) spent the afternoon volunteering in ETSU Child Studies Center which serves children from ages 3 months to 5 years old.

The team treated the children to an afternoon of stories and games and enjoyed being a positive example to the children while bringing smiles to their faces.

"We want to thank Beverly and the ETSU Child Studies Center staff for allowing us to come over and participate in the activities with the children. I feel that our soccer ladies are a powerful role model to our children," said head coach Heather Henson.

"This a very important part of the maturing process that your youth will go through and I feel that anytime children can see strong young women in the community is a positive example of what they can become," added Henson.

The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches, and administrators throughout the year.
