ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 27, 2006) - After dropping a heartbreaker on Friday night to Georgetown, the ETSU women's basketball got back on track as they defeated UNC Asheville, 91-79, inside the Justice Center. It took a total team effort as every ETSU player that saw action Monday night got in the scoring column for its first road win of the season. The Lady Bucs (2-4) have now won 15 of the 16 games in the series against the Bulldogs (2-3).

The Lady Bucs clinched the victory by making eight of their last nine free throws in the final two minutes. ETSU once again had five players score in double figures with senior Brooke Wilhoit (Sevierville, Tenn.) leading the way with 17 points and a season-high eight assists, while Ashton Barton poured in career-high 25 for UNC Asheville.

Freshman TaRonda Wiles (Danville, Va.) scored a career-high 14 points, and junior Jenny Norman (Peachtree City, Ga.) added a season-best with 10. Junior Kelly Turman (Atlanta, Ga.) scored 15 points in her first game this season for the Lady Bucs, while all 12 of Michele DeVault's (Columbus, Ohio) points came in the second half . ETSU's bench outscored UNC Asheville's 42-15.

ETSU opened the second half on fire, extending its halftime lead to nine, at 47-38, when DeVault nailed a three-pointer at the 17:17 mark. However, the Bulldogs would fight back, as they went on a 17-7 run to take their first lead of the second half, 55-54 with 11:07 in the game.

With the game tied at 55, the Lady Bucs used a 15-4 run to take a 70-59 lead with 7:40 remaining in the game. UNC Asheville would creep back to within four, 81-77, at the 1:52 mark, but the ETSU free throws did the Bulldogs in.

ETSU ended the first half holding UNC Asheville without a field goal for the final 3:24, and took a 38-34 lead into the break. Nine of the 10 players who saw minutes scored for ETSU in the half. Wiles led the way for the Lady Bucs scoring eight points, going four-of-five from the field in the first frame.

The Lady Bucs started off the game scoring the first points of the game when Norman made a quick jumper, ending an 11:31 drought without a field goal. ETSU would not regain a lead until forty-four seconds left in the half, when Wiles connected on a layup, 35-34.

The Bulldogs held the largest lead of the half at 26-16 with 7:44 remaining. However, the lead would not last long as the Lady Bucs ended the half on a 22-8 run during the stretch.  ETSU shot a season-best 50 percent (16-32) from the field in the first half, while holding the UNC Asheville to 32.4 percent (11-34). The Lady Bucs made only four trips to the free-throw line, compared to the Bulldogs 13.

ETSU shot a season-high 53.0 percent (35-66) from the field, compared to Asheville's 42.2 percent (27-64). The Lady Bucs forced 12 steals, and posted a season-high 19 assists.

The Lady Bucs will continue their road trip as they get set to open Atlantic Sun action against Mercer Thursday evening. Tip is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. inside the University Center.
