JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 29, 2007) - The ETSU men's and women's track and field team put together solid performances Thursday afternoon at the Milligan Relays, as they won eight events and the men took home top team honors at the Liberty Bell Track Complex.

As a team the men claimed first place with 94 points, while Virginia Intermont (87 points) and Carson-Newman (59 points) rounded out the top three.

Freshman Jarrod Burton (Tazewell, Va.) continued his path of rewriting the ETSU record books by breaking Curtis Eason's nine-year old shot put record of 50-6 (15.39m). Burton claimed the top spot and school record with his heave of 50-7.50 (15.43m). The Virginia native also won the discus title with a toss of 131-0.40 (39.94m).

Continuing on the men's side, junior Nate Strickland (Morganton, N.C.) strung together his best leaps so far this season in the long and triple jump. Strickland claimed first-place in the triple jump with a booming leap of 46-6.80 (13.28m), and finished second in the long jump with a mark of 22-1.40 (6.74m). Dave Thomas (Maryville, Tenn.) made sure his first outdoor meet of the season went well, as he finished first in the pole vault with a mark of 13-11.30 (4.25m).

The ETSU women finished second as a team with 82 points, and like the men they also had four athletes claim titles in their respective events.

Sophomore Tashauna Robinson (Trelowny, Jamaica, W.I.) put together very strong performances in the long and triple jump, as she claimed titles in both events Thursday. Robinson's leap of 17-3.90 (5.28m) in the long jump marked a season-best, and she finished with a mark of 34-5 (10.49m) in the triple. Heather Adkins (Kansas City, Mo.) finished with the fastest time in the 3000 meters by crossing the finish line in 10:42.69.

Two other Tazewell, Va. natives competed well in the women's throwing events. Freshman Zachlynn Blackburn won the discus title with a toss of 123-7 (37.69m), and teammate Dedra Jones finished second with her throw of 117-7 (35.86m).
