Johnson City, Tenn. (July 31, 2006) - With three invitation-only fall tournaments and several matches against nationally ranked teams, the No. 75 Lady Bucs tennis team will take on a demanding schedule for the 2006-07 season.
ETSU will start fall tournament action off by hosting the ETSU tournament Sept. 15-17 with some members of the team traveling to Knoxville for the St. Mary's Classic, hosted by Tennessee. The Lady Bucs will then regroup for the Deacon Classic at Wake Forest, Sept. 22-24 and the ITA Southeast Regional, Oct. 12-15. ETSU will then close out the fall at the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
The Lady Bucs will open the spring season on the road as they take on Eastern Kentucky on Jan. 19. The match will be the first of a 10-match road tour which will feature matches against Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina.
"Our schedule this year is much tougher," said head coach Steve Brooks, "in the fall we play invitation-only tournaments at Tennessee, Wake Forest, and UNC - Chapel Hill. Our spring matches are with Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Georgia, South Carolina, William and Mary, Pennsylvania, and Florida International which all finished in the ITA Top 50. We will also play Princeton and Michigan State for the first time ever."
After their first-ever conference title and NCAA appearance the Lady Bucs look to continue their winning ways as they open their A-Sun schedule at home against North Florida on Feb. 25. The Lady Bucs will also face Jacksonville (March 21) and Mercer (April 6) at home before closing out the regular season against Big South rival Winthrop.
The Lady Bucs will also be looking to defend their conference title as ETSU takes on hosting duties for the Atlantic Sun Championships April 20-22.
