GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 25, 2007) - ETSU women's tennis swept UNC Greensboro 7-0 today improving to 8-9 on the season while UNCG falls to 6-7.

The Lady Bucs took their second victory on the road this weekend against UNCG without dropping a match. In doubles play Masha Ilina (Kyiv Ukraine) and Olya Batsula (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Arielle Von Strolley and Erica Zabkar 8-3 in the No. 1 position. Yevgeniya Stupak (Kyiv, Ukriane) and Elena Volobueva (Barcelona, Spain) defeated Valerie Behr and Jessica Eblen 8-5 in the No. 2 position, and Tara Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Vita Moskaliova (Minsk, Belarus) defeated Whitney Miles and Courtney Akel in the third position 8-4.

With the 1-0 lead going into the singles, Tara Byrne was strong at No. 4 and cruised past her opponent Courtney Akel 6-3, 6-1. Yevgeniya Stupak defeated Erica Zabkar 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 position, while Elena Volobueva secured the win for ESTU with her win in the No. 5 position against Valerie Behr 6-2, 6-3.

Olya Batsula gained another win in the third slot defeating Whitney Miles 6-4, 6-2, while Masha Ilina overcame Arielle Von Stolley 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 position. Battling for a win in the sixth position, Whitney Trotter split sets with Jessica Eblen before winning in a ten-point tiebreaker 10-2.

"I thought that we played well today considering we had a match yesterday, and I am glad that we were able to play well two days in a row. We played solid from top to bottom and I am happy that we swept the doubles today winning in all three spots," said head coach Steve Brooks.

Masha Ilina broke the record for career singles wins for ETSU women's tennis in yesterday's match against Campbell, and made it one more today.

"Each year Masha has been at or near the top of season singles wins, and it is good that we are not at the end of the season yet and she has already broken the record for career wins," said head coach Steve Brooks. "She still has more wins to come which will boost the record even higher."

"Breaking the record for career singles wins is bitter sweet," said team captain Masha Ilina. "I am very excited and happy to break it, and am looking forward to getting more wins, even though it reminds me how close I am to the finish of my college tennis career now."
