ETSU men's tennis defeats UTSA, 5-2

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 5, 2007) - The No. 48 ranked ETSU men's tennis team picked up another win as they defeated the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 5-2. ETSU improves to 11-3 on the season as UTSA falls to 7-5.

 

ETSU took a 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. In the No. 1 position, Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Andre Moreira and Nenad Maric, 8-5, while Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Felix Insaurralde defeated Rodrigo Morgado and Nate Avila, 8-6 in the No. 3 position. In the No. 2 slot, Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) fell to the duo of Robin Fernandes and Adam Becker, 9-8.

 

The Bucs continued to fight hard in singles play as Olivares defeated Morgado, 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 2 position, while Serrano defeated Nenad Maric, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 slot. Picardo and Ahlgren also picked up wins for ETSU in the No. 5 and 6 slots respectively. Picardo defeated Nate Avila, 6-4, 6-1 while Ahlgren won a tough match over Adam Becker, 7-6, 7-5. The Roadrunners earned their two points when junior Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) fell to Robin Fernandes, 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 1 slot and Insaurralde fell to Moreira, 6-4, 6-1 in the third position.

 

"The team did a wonderful job and as a team we played a lot of good matches. Even though it has been extremely tough outside and adjusting to the conditions, they fought hard and pulled out a win," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.
