BUIES CREEK, N.C. (April 9, 2007) - The ETSU women's golf team did not enjoy a strong start during first round play at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship Monday, finishing 24 strokes over par and 16 strokes back of host and defending champion Campbell at Keith Hills Country Club.

With a team score of 312, the Lady Bucs have two rounds to make up the advantage currently enjoyed by the Fighting Camels. For ETSU, the top individual performances of the day came from freshman Laura Jansone (Jurmala, Latvia) and sophomore Lucy Gould (Bargoed, Wales), who both posted 5-over-par 77s to finish the day tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard.

"We need to play better, but this is just the first day," said ETSU head coach Stefanie Reynolds. "We're very capable of coming out and shooting better scores. This was not the ideal way to finish the first round, but we have competitors on this team and they will come out tomorrow wanting to perform."

While the Lady Bucs have a deficit to overcome in the team competition, Jansone and Gould are just four strokes back of Mercer's Monica Kelsey's and Campbells's Alejandra Shaw, who lead the event at 1-over 73. Other ETSU results of note included a tie for 16th by junior Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia), while freshman Sinead O'Sullivan (Galway, Ireland) and junior Maria Ringdahl (Oland, Sweden) are tied for 22nd and 28th, respectively.

Second round play in the A-Sun Championships will resume on Tuesday, with third and final round action set for Wednesday. Fans can watch live stats from the event by visiting Golfstat.com. A complete wrap up of the day's events will be available at ETSUBucs.com following the completion of each day's play.
