Baseball adds University of Georgia transfer
Head coach Tony Skole Friday, January 06, 2006 Johnson City, Tenn. (Jan. 6, 2006) - ETSU head baseball coach Tony Skole announced that Trey Sheffield (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) has joined the team after transferring from the University of Georgia. A redshirt freshman,
A 2004 "I am very excited about Trey," said Skole. "He will make an immediate impact and contribution to our program. Trey has a lot of experience and has pitched very well in many big games throughout his career. He is a fierce competitor who can flat out pitch the baseball. Our program is going to be a great fit for him and our fans will enjoy watching this young man take the mound this spring. We are glad Trey Sheffield is a Buccaneer." In 2003 as a member of the East Cobb Yankees summer league squad, Sheffield ran up a perfect 4-0 record and recorded three saves while striking out 30 batters and compiling a miniscule 1.78 ERA in 31.1 innings of work. The Yankees went on to claim the 2003 Connie Mack World Championship. He posted an even more impressive 2004 season with the Yankees, going 7-0 with a 1.62 ERA. "Trey served as a starter, reliever and closer," said Yankee head coach James Beavers. "He proved to be the most solid pitcher on our staff." |
