MACON, Ga. (April 10, 2006) - ETSU senior pitcher Steven Calicutt's (Spartanburg, S.C.) stellar play last week helped the Bucs to three wins, as Calicutt had a hand in all three victories.  The Atlantic Sun Conference rewarded him Monday afternoon with his first Pitcher of the Week Award of the season.

Calicutt went 2-0 for the week with one save, improving to 6-2 for 2006 with six saves.  The senior closer pitched the final 3 2/3 innings against Tennessee on Wednesday, limiting the Volunteers to one run and leading the Bucs to their first season sweep of their in-state rival since 1979.  Calicutt returned on Friday, recording the final three outs of game one against Kennesaw State, preserving the Bucs 9-5 victory that snapped a four-game conference losing streak.  The southpaw entered the game in the eighth inning of the series' second game, and recoded the final six outs as the Bucs rallied for the 5-4 win.  With the game tying run on second and the game winner at first with two outs in the ninth inning, Calicutt recorded his seventh strikeout of the week to end the game.  For the week, the Spartanburg, S.C., native threw 6 2/3 innings with a 1.35 ERA, surrendering just one run versus Tennessee, and not allowing a single run in three innings of conference play.  The Bucs took two of three from then co-league leader Kennesaw State.  Calicutt majors in Communications.

Calicutt is the third Buccaneer to win a weekly award from the conference office this year.  Senior pitcher Jeremy Hall (Gray, Tenn.) and junior outfielder C.J. Lee (Bristol, Va.) were each honored earlier this season.

The Atlantic Sun Conference hands out Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week awards weekly during the 2006 baseball campaign.
