Lady Bucs return to Memorial Center to face Jacksonville

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (February 8, 2006) - The Lady Bucs will hit the floor of Memorial Center for the first time in nearly a month Thursday night, as they welcome Jacksonville to Johnson City for a 4:45 start.  ETSU (12-7, 8-4 A-Sun), which hasn't played in the Mini Dome since Jan. 12, will be vying to snap a two-game skid, while the Dolphins of Jacksonville (6-13, 3-9 A-Sun) is looking for their third straight victory.

Scouting the Dolphins ...

Jacksonville's 3-9 conference record is certainly deceiving, as the Dolphins have mounted a hot streak as of late, coming up with wins in its last three home games, notching victories over Stetson, Campbell, and Gardner-Webb.  Dolphin Ashley Williams, the reigning A-Sun Player of the Week, is leading JU in both scoring and rebounding, posting 16.9 ppg, and 7.9 rpg.  Sheena Carpenter is also playing well, averaging 13.7 points, and 7.1 rebounds a night.  Carpenter scorched ETSU for 24 points in the teams' first meeting this season, on a stellar 8-for-9 performance from the field.  The Dolphins are also one the best shot-blocking clubs in the league, averaging 4.53 stops per game, which is tied for most in the conference.

The Series ...

The Lady Bucs won the season's first meeting, and the first meeting in program history, 84-72, in Jacksonville.  But the win didn't come easy, as the Dolphins led for the entire first half before ETSU turned on an impressive second-half comeback.  B.J. Banjo paced ETSU with a game-high 25 points, followed by Kelly Turman with a season-best 20, and Nichelle Akers with 16.
