Lady Bucs look to make it two in-a-row against North Florida

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (February 10, 2006) - After picking up a 74-53 win over Jacksonville on Thursday, the Lady Bucs will aim to make it two in-a-row when they batte North Florida on Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., in Memorial Center.  The Lady Bucs are currently 9-4 in Atlantic Sun play, while the Lady Ospreys boast a 7-6 conference record.

About the Game ...

Today's game will be the second in the Lady Bucs' two-game homestand, following a 74-53 win over Jacksonville on Thursday night.  North Florida is coming in hot, picking up wins in five of its last seven games, including a 75-73 overtime victory over Kennesaw State on Thursday.  The Ospreys, who are not eligible for postseason play due to reclassifying years, are currently ranked sixth in the A-Sun at 7-6, while the third-place Lady Bucs come into the battle at 9-4.  ETSU earned the win in the season's first meeting, downing UNF, 80-59, in UNF Arena.

 

Scouting the Ospreys ...

Jackie Beik leads a balanced UNF offensive attack, averaging 12.0 ppg, while also pacing the team on the boards, tallying 5.9 rpg.  Beik is also one of the most accurate shooters in the league, shooting 57.6 percent from the field, the second-best mark in the A-Sun.  Tamara Hubbard is next in line, averaging 8.6 ppg, while teammate Andrea Dill is second in the rebounding category at 4.2 rpg.  The Ospreys have earned wins in five of their last seven outings, including victories over Stetson, Mercer, Lipscomb, and Gardner-Webb. 

 

The Series ...

Today's matchup will be the second in program history after the Lady Bucs topped North Florida, 80-59, in the season's first meeting in Jacksonville on Jan. 5.  The win kept ETSU  unblemished in the Atlantic Sun at 4-0, and improve to 8-3 overall. B.J. Banjo netted her 1,000th career point in the outing, on her way to pouring in a game-high 23 points.  Jackie Beik paced the Ospreys with 22 points, including 14 in the second half. Beik also posted a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
