Two new coaches added to ETSU track & field staff
Thursday, September 01, 2005 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 1, 2005) - The ETSU track and field team recently added to its coaching staff with the hiring of Meg Stone and Daniel Duckworth. Both Stone and Duckworth will be working with the men's and women's teams this season. Stone brings a tremendous amount of coaching experience with her to ETSU. As a former athlete herself, Stone competed in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics in the shot and discus. She was a member of the "We are thrilled that Meg has joined our staff at ETSU and comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge," said assistant head track and field coach Michelle Byrne. "She will be involved in every facet of our program and will only make us better. With her, the future is brighter than ever for track and field." Duckworth received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Appalachian State University in 2003 where he worked for a year under Stone. While at ASU, he competed as a decathlete and a thrower. He also competed for three years in Olympic-style weight lifting. Duckworth was named the 2003 Southern Conference Champion in the 35-pound weight throw. After graduation he played one year of Arena League Football for the Carolina Sharks. Duckworth is currently pursuing his master's degree in exercise physiology at ETSU. He currently specializes in coaching the throws and jumps. He spent one season (2003-2004) as a volunteer coach at "Daniel is young, energetic and enthusiastic to make things better," Byrne said. "He is going to work at developing our multi-events and throws to make us a well-rounded team." |
