ETSU men's tennis picks up win against East Carolina, 4-0

Sunday, January 29, 2006

(Jan. 29, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team recovered after yesterday's loss to No. 15 Wake Forest, to defeat East Carolina, 4-0. The Bucs are now 4-2 on the year while East Carolina falls to 3-2.

The Buccaneers took the doubles point, winning two of the three matches against the Pirates. In No. 2 doubles, Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) defeated Nick Rose and Brian Walters, 8-4 and Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Aleksey Kotchetov and Britton Steele, 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles position. In No. 1 doubles, Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) were defeated by Ricardo Barone and Henrique Viana, 8-5.

In singles action, play was suspended early because Collegiate tennis rules dictate a neutral site match can be halted once a team clinches its fourth victory in a seven-point scoring system. The three points came from Felix Insaurralde defeating Henrique Viana, 6-3, 6-3, Enrique Olivares defeating Ricardo Barone, 6-1, 6-3, and Lisandro Picardo defeating Nick Rose, 7-6 (5), 6-3.

The No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 singles matches, featuring ETSU's Oscar Posada, Sebastian Serrano and Matt Stanley (Kingsport, Tenn.) were either suspended or not played.

The Buccaneers will take on the No. 17 University of Tennessee Volunteers Saturday Feb. 4, in Knoxville at 1 p.m.
