No. 29 San Diego defeats ETSU, 4-2

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (February 23, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team fell to No. 29 San Diego, 4-2 at the West Tennis Courts in San Diego on Thursday. The Bucs are now 6-5 on the year while the Toreros improve to 7-2 with the win.

 

San Diego took the lead early by winning the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles Pierrick Ysern and Thomas Liversage defeated Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) 8-1. ETSU then tied the doubles at 1-1 when Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Mirza Koristovic and Chris Coetzee, 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. In the No. 2 position Oscar Plotnick and Jonas Mouly defeated Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) 8-5, to clench the doubles point.

 

In singles action, junior Oscar Posada was defeated by Pierrick Ysern, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 1 position, while senior Felix Insaurralde defeated Thomas Liversage, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 2 slot. In the No. 3 position, freshman Juan Crosa was defeated by Oscar Plotnick, 7-5, 6-3. In No. 4 singles, freshman Enrique Olivares defeated Mirza Koristovic, 6-4, 6-1 while Jonas Mouly defeated Sebastian Serrano after a hard fought match, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 position. The No. 5 singles match was called one point into the third set.

 

"We had a great performance today, even though a loss is still a loss, the guys played extremely well and really fought hard," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.

 

ETSU's next match is scheduled for next Saturday, February 25 when the Buccaneers continue their California swing and take on San Diego State at 12 p.m.
