Lady Bucs still alive in A-Sun Tournament, top Gardner-Webb, 6-3
Thursday, May 11, 2006 BOCA RATON, Fla. (May 11, 2006) - Thanks to a five-run third inning, the fifth-seeded ETSU softball team topped six-seed Gardner-Webb, 5-0, in the Atlantic Sun Championship Tournament, Thursday at FAU Softball Stadium. Freshman Jessie Hackworth ( ETSU improves to 21-35 with the victory, while Gardner-Webb ends the season at 12-38, following its second loss of the tournament.

The Runnin' Bulldogs got their three runs in the first, starting with an RBI-triple from Christie Barlow. Lindsey Whitfield and Joanna Ward followed up with a pair of RBI-doubles to take the early lead.
The Lady Bucs answered in the second, when a Stephanie Cope (

Bulldog Haley Scism took the loss, after giving up nine hits and four earned runs. Taryn Beck also made an appearance on the mound, allowing two hits and one earned run.

The Lady Bucs are scheduled to play again tomorrow, drawing fourth-seed Campbell. Campbell lost to FAU by a 5-1 margin, after downing Mercer in the first round. Game time is set for 5 p.m. |
