General Shale Brick signs on as "name" sponsor for A-Sun Men's Basketball Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2005) - During Monday's Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Media Day hosted by the Carnegie Hotel, the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that General Shale Brick has agreed to become the name sponsor for the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Championships.

"We are so proud that a company like General Shale Brick, with its outstanding reputation, has agreed to act as the name sponsor for the tournament," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins. "Their sponsorship of this championship will help us make this a truly exciting event for ETSU fans, as well as all fans of A-Sun basketball."

The 2006 General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Championships will be played March 2-4 inside ETSU's Memorial Center. The top eight teams in the 11-team conference will compete for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Dick Green, president and CEO for General Shale Brick, said the sponsorship made sense for many reasons.

"This is our way of supporting the ETSU basketball program, the university, the community, and our new conference," Green said. "We have some great basketball fans in the region and they will be able to see some high quality basketball teams from the Southeast right here in Johnson City. And we will have the opportunity to demonstrate our hospitality to the many visitors that will travel to the Tri-Cities for the tournament."

Green said the sponsorship made sense for General Shale Brick, considering the Southeastern footprint of the company.

"General Shale Brick markets our products throughout the Atlantic Sun Conference area and we'd like to thank our past, present and future customers for their business," he said. "We're excited about the future of ETSU basketball and the Atlantic Sun Conference."

Along with Monday's announcement, the day included coach and sports information director meetings, media interviews with the coaches from all 11 A-Sun Conference schools, as well as a luncheon for representatives of the many committees that are planning the tournament.
