MACON, Ga. (April 6, 2006) - ETSU junior golfer Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) was named the March Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Month by the league office Thursday. It's the fourth GOTM honor for Davies this 2005-06 season and the fifth overall for the ETSU men's team, which has so far swept the monthly awards this season (September, October, November, February and March).

Davies moved to a national rank of No. 5 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ranking while being named a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award, college golf's top individual award. The Bridgend, Wales native finished the month of March with a stroke average of 71.6.

Davies posted three Top-6 finishes in extremely tough fields, including his best performance at the General Hackler Invitational, where he placed second with a 5-under 211. The Bucs faced a total of 18 top-40 teams in three tournaments during March. Davies' efforts at the General Hackler Invitational helped the Bucs to their first regular season tournament victory since 2001. For the month, Davies carded five sub-72 rounds, including a 69.

The Bucs will be back in action at the U.S. Collegiate Championships hosted by Georgia Tech beginning April 10 in Atlanta. Davies and the team are also eyeing the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship which is scheduled for April 17-19 at the Eagle Creek Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
