Davies falls at 111th British Amateur Championship
Thursday, June 22, 2006
DEAL, England (June 22, 2006) - ETSU rising senior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) saw his run at the 111th British Amateur Championship come to an end Thursday at Royal St. George's.
Davies, who survived the first day of match play with a win over Jonathan King on the 22nd hole of their match Wednesday, fell to Mitchell Brown 1 up on Thursday. While his attempt to win a British Amateur comes to an end this season, the former British Boys Champion will now turn his attention to playing as a member of the European team in the Palmer Cup later this month.
Davies, along with teammates Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) and Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) all competed during the two rounds of qualifying stroke play earlier this week, but only Davies and McNamara made the cut to reach match play. McNamara lost on Wednesday to Stuart Moore, 3 and 2.
