JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 15, 2005) - ETSU's Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Lee Morrow took time recently to speak during the Men's Cancer Workshop's "Stay in the Game" program at the Carver Recreation Center.

"It is a health workshop for men, because men don't go to the doctor like they should," said event director Thurman Walters.

The five-hour workshop was free to the public and the afternoon was filled with raffle drawings, a free lunch, blood pressure and glucose screenings, a doctors' panel to answer questions on prostate, testicular, and colon cancer, and other guest speakers.

Morrow's comments focused on hydration, maintaining a target heart rate during exercise, building muscle, eating a healthy diet, and scheduling time for exercise. For individuals wanting to be healthier, Morrow said setting a realistic goal and striving for it is important.

"I wanted them to leave with an understanding of overall fitness, and to train for life not necessarily football, basketball, etc.," said Morrow, who spoke to a group of over 50 African American males. "Fitness should be a lifestyle not a ritual."

Morrow's visit to the "Stay in the Game" program continues the Buccaneers commitment to community service. The ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics takes pride in its community service activities and strives for 100 percent participation from its student-athletes, coaches and administrators throughout the year.
