ETSU soccer falls to Georgia State in day one of the GSU Marriott Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. (Sept. 10, 2004) - Junior defender Jacque Redman scored the game-winning goal to lift Georgia State to a 3-0 victory over East Tennessee State in the first round of the Georgia State University Marriott Invitational on Friday, Sept. 10 at Silverbacks Park. The Lady Panthers increased their home-winning streak to 10 consecutive contests and posted their second straight shutout victory of the season. ETSU's overall record falls to 2-2-0 with the loss. The Lady Panthers (2-1-1) jumped out to an early lead as Redman, who scored her first collegiate goal, collected a pass from junior Dana Van Winkle and fired her shot into the right side of the net with 25:25 remaining. Georgia State played a man down for 84 minutes of the game due to Brooks Daniel receiving a red card early in the first half. Sophomore Amber Collins-Cephers converted a penalty kick at the 59:35 mark as she was taken down inside the box for her second penalty kick goal of the season. Sophomore Tenisha Cohen added an insurance goal with less than eight minutes remaining in the contest for her first goal of the season. Cohen knocked the ball into the left side of the goal on a Rosie O'Toole pass. Junior goalkeeper Alexa Pasquarelli and freshman Charolotte Vargo combined for the shutout, with four and one save(s), respectively. Freshman Chrissy Parks (Annapolis, Md.) suffered the loss for East Tennessee State and is 2-2-0 for the season. Sarah Prendergast (Palm Bay, Fla.) also saw action in goal for the Lady Buccaneers in the second half. Georgia State returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 12 as the Lady Panthers face Western Carolina in the final day of the GSU Marriott Invitational at 12 noon at Silverbacks Park. ETSU will meet Jacksonville State, who defeated WCU, 3-2, in overtime in the opener, at 10:00 a.m.
