Women's Soccer releases 2005 Schedule

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 13, 2005) - East Tennessee State University women's soccer head coach Heather Henson has announced the Buccaneer soccer schedule for the 2005 season.

In their inaugural year in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Buccaneers will host a total of ten games in 2005, five of those being A-Sun matches. The non-conference schedule includes a scrimmage against Morehead State, UNC Asheville, Radford, Jacksonville State, Mt. St. Mary, George Mason, South Carolina St., Tennessee Tech, and MTSU and Alabama A&M U at the MTSU Invitational Tournament.

"We are excited with our 2005 schedule," commented Henson. "The move into the A-Sun will give us the opportunity to create new rivals.  Of our 20 games scheduled for the season, 12 are against first time opponents, five are against conference champions (regular season and/or tournament), three are against conference finalists, and three are against teams that competed in NCAA Tournaments."

The first A-Sun match up for the Buccaneers will be a road match against Jacksonville on Friday, Sept. 23. It will be the first contest between the schools.

ETSU will host an exhibition match against Morehead State on Saturday, August 20 before officially opening their season on Friday, Aug. 26 when they travel to face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs for a 2:00 p.m. match up.

"We feel that our team will be as experienced and talented as we have been in school history," stated Henson. "We feel our senior leadership and our total of 15 returning players along with our incoming freshman class will step into the 2005 schedule with challenges ahead, but success in the end.  We feel that our team is ready for the next level of competition and that is what this schedule indicates. "

The complete scheduled is available on the 2005 schedule link located on the right sidebar of the women's soccer homepage.
