(Dec. 28, 2004) -  Resuming Southern Conference play tonight in Memorial Center, the Lady Bucs basketball squad fell 82-76 in an exciting overtime battle with the Georgia Southern Eagles.  With the loss, ETSU falls to 4-6, 2-2 in SoCon play, while the Eagles improve to 6-5, 3-2 SoCon for the year.  Lady Bucs guard B.J. Banjo (Baltimore, Md.) tied a career-high with a game-high 25 points, adding four assists and three steals in 38 minutes on the court for the Bucs, while pacing the Eagles was guard Kellie Tiller who posted 19 points and six assists shooting 50 percent from the floor.

The first half was a constant back and forth battle between the Bucs and Eagles before the home squad posted an 8-0 run capped off with a made three-pointer off the hand of sophomore guard Holly Moring (Irmo, S.C.) to give ETSU the 25-22 upperhand.  The Eagles answered however with a lay-up by Nicole Newton and two made free-throws by Kelli Tiller to retake the lead at 26-25 with just under four minutes remaining in the first set.  Six lead changes and nine ties throughout the first half saw GSU take the slight 36-34 advantage into the halftime break.

Moring and junior guard Candace Gibson (Warner Robbins, Ga.) paced the Bucs with nine points each in the first half, while senior Tiffani Mayes (Sumter, S.C.) carried four rebounds into the halftime break.  GSU was led by Newton with nine points, two rebounds and one assist throughout the first half.

ETSU led by as many as five points with just 7:17 remaining in the second half before allowing the GSU offense to regain momentum and tie the match at 63 behind a made lay-up by Adrienne Early with just over six minutes remaining in the game.  The teams battled to a 72-72 tie at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime, the first time ETSU entered extra time in nearly three years.

In the last seven minutes of the overtime contest, the Lady Bucs managed just one made basket from the floor as they weren't able to regain momentum in the extra five minutes of play as GSU took the victory with a final score of 82-76.  ETSU was led by Banjo with 25 points for the night, while Gibson also posted a career-high 18 points adding two assists, four blocks and two steals for the Bucs.  Mayes finished the night with 10 points and two assists, while Moring posted 12 points shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc in the loss.

ETSU returns to action Thursday when they host Mississippi State for the first time in Lady Bucs basketball history.  The mid-season non-conference contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Center.  The Bucs return to SoCon action Jan. 2 when Chattanooga will visit Johnson City for a 2:00 p.m. start time in Memorial Center.
