Sunday, October 03, 2004
(Oct. 3, 2004) - The Lady Bucs volleyball squad hosted Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern today where the Eagles proved too strong, sweeping ETSU 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-26). ETSU falls to 2-12, 1-3 in conference competition, while GSU improves to 7-4, with an undefeated 4-0 record in Southern Conference play this year.
The ETSU offense fell behind early and never regained momentum throughout the match. The Lady Bucs managed to near the score at 16-17 in game one, however behind the service of Staci Anderson, GSU scored four straight points en-route to the 30-22 win. Game two saw ETSU fall behind early yet again, however the offense battled back behind the service of Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Co.) scoring three straight points to even the score at 8-8. GSU won game two from the service stripe as Bailey Coleman served the Eagles to five straight points giving them the 17-13 lead and the 30-21 victory in game two.
With their confidence down, ETSU started game three with a much needed win. After the intermission, the Lady Bucs fell behind 20-14 before they began to ease their way back into the match scoring five straight points to near the score at 29-26. After a GSU timeout and Lady Bucs attacking error, the Eagles were able take game three 30-26 and the 3-0 match win.
Defense was the story of today's match as the Eagles defensive front court posted eight total blocks compared to just 30 kills by the ETSU offense. Plagued yet again by service errors (8), the Lady Bucs offense managed to hit just .029 in the three-game match. Setter Brittany Kessel (
