Posada breaks into ITA rankings

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2004) - After a stellar first season with the Buccaneers, Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) has been selected by the ITA to the 105th slot in the ITA National Preseason Singles Rankings. Posada is the first Buccaneer player to rank nationally in singles since Gustavo Gomez in 2000.

In his freshman campaign, Posada's helped the ETSU squad achieve a prefect 13-0 record in Southern Conference play, which led to the Bucs third NCAA team championship appearance.

At the SoCon Men's Tennis Championship he went undefeated and was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Posada was also named the SoCon's Freshman of the Year and was named to the Southern Conference All-Conference first team in both singles and doubles.

His overall record of 27-10 in singles includes a 20-4 record in dual competition playing at the No. 1 and 2 slots for the Bucs. His wins include matches against No. 54 UT, No. 53 Louisville, and No. 56 Old Dominion opponents as well as individually ranked No. 77 Andrew Hamar of Wake Forest 5-7, 6-4, (13-11).

The men's tennis team finished the 2004 season ranked 68th in the ITA National Team Rankings. Posada and the Bucs will open fall tournament action as they travel to Athens, Ga. to participate in the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament. The four-day tournament is scheduled to begin next Friday, Sept. 24.
