            Columbia, S.C. (Oct. 16, 2004) - The East Tennessee State men's tennis team completed day two of the University of South Carolina Fall Invitational on Saturday night.

            Team captain, senior Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) won his first match against Brandon Johnson of Radford 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to advance. In the round of 16 he took on Austin Fenn of Elon and defeated him 6-4, 6-2 this morning to send him to quarterfinals where he was defeated by Liron Kling of SoCon rival school the College of Charleston.

            Also in singles action, senior Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Sebastian Bredberg of Elon, but fell in the quarterfinals to Parantap Chaturvedi of SCSU 6-4, 6-2.

            Sophomore Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay), who was sent to the consolation round with his loss in the first round, defeated Brad Pomeroy 6-4, 6-1 to advance. He then won against Winthrop's Jorge Padilla 6-2, 6-3 to earn a spot in the semifinals. Insaurralde will face Liron Strauss of Wake Forest tomorrow in the final day of competition.
