Men's tennis competes at Wilson-ITA Mideast Region Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. (Oct. 21, 2004) - The East Tennessee State men's tennis team completed day one of the Wilson-ITA Mideast Region Championships today in Chapel Hill, N.C.

            Senior Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) took the first win of the tournament for the Bucs. He faced Winthrop's Alejandro Portugal in the first qualifying round and defeated him in three sets 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

In the second round, Ochoa met Peter Shults of Duke in the second round, but was eliminated in a hard fought 6-2, 6-0 loss.

In doubles, Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) took on Davidson's Russ Burns and Donald Miles, but were defeated in an 8-6 decision.

Though the pair was eliminated in doubles, the two will also compete for ETSU in the singles main draw in which, Posada has been seeded No. 13.

The Bucs continue action tomorrow as they begin day two of the Wilson-ITA Mideast Region Championships at 8:00 a.m.
