ELON, N.C. (April 3, 2005) - The Buccaneer men's tennis team continued its success in the SoCon with a 7-0 victory over Elon University on Sunday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. East Tennessee State improves to 14-3 overall earning their 12th straight victory and remains perfect in conference play 7-0, while Elon falls to 5-12, 0-7.

In doubles action, ETSU claimed the point winning all three slots. Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) defeated Pramote Malasitt and Austin Fenn 8-4 at No. 1 while Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) defeated Brian Edmundson and Kyle Smialek 8-5 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3 doubles, Moisés Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) downed Sebastian Bredberg and George Memory 8-4.

The No. 1 singles match was a battle of the league's only undefeated No. 1 singles men's tennis players. Posada, the country's 40th-ranked NCAA Division I player, downed Elon's Malasitt 6-4, 6-4. Down 5-3 in the second set, Malasitt battled back to win the game and make the score 5-4, but Posada took the next game to finish the set 6-4 and win the match.

            At No. 2 singles, ETSU's Insaurralde took the first set 6-1 from Fenn. Fenn came back to win the second set 6-4, but fell in the third set 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Bredberg fell to Fiuri 6-2, 6-1. Elon's Edmundson trailed M. Serrano 4-1 before being forced to retire due to injury. Picardo defeated Smialek 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot while S. Serrano defeated Alex Garrett 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6.

            The Bucs will complete their game against UNCG this afternoon at 5:00 p.m. before returning home to host Georgia Southern on April 9 in a noon match.
