JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 9, 2005) - The East Tennessee State men's tennis team flew past the Georgia Southern Eagles in a 6-1 decision on Saturday afternoon at the ETSU Tennis Courts. The Bucs pick up their 14th straight win and are now 16-3 overall and 9-0 in SoCon play, while the Eagles drop to 3-15, 2-5.

ETSU started the match by capturing the doubles point. The team of Moisés Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) quickly defeated GSU's Charles-Henri Trottet and Tom Green 8-0 at the No. 3 slot. Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) then brought in a win at No. 1 over Vincent Patry and Danie Van Den Heever at No. 1, 8-6. Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) then rounded off doubles action with a 9-8 (7-2) battle at the No. 2 slot over Lasha Janashia and Germano Knorr for the ETSU sweep.

In singles action, ETSU picked up five wins in straight sets after the Eagles' Patry picked up the lone point for GSU at No. 2. Wins for the Bucs came from S. Serrano at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0), M. Serrano at No. 4 (6-3, 6-1), Fiuri at No. 3 (7-6, 6-1), Posada at No. 1 (6-4, 6-3), and Picardo at No. 5 (6-1, 7-5).

"The guys played well today, but they were not as sharp as they usually are," stated Head Coach Yaser Zaatini. "I was a little uncomfortable during today's match. Hopefully, in our next match, which is the team's Senior Day, the guys can obtain the same results but come with better motivation and play better."

The Bucs now look to host their last regular season match Friday, April 15 against Wofford at 2:00 p.m. before heading to Charleston, S.C. for the SoCon Tournament.
