CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 27, 2005) - The ETSU softball squad finished weekend competition at the Charlotte Holiday Inn First Pitch Classic hosted by the Charlotte 49'ers on Sunday continuing early season action.  For the weekend, ETSU went 0-4 sending their season record to 4-7 in non-conference play.  In action Friday evening against host Charlotte, ETSU dropped the close 5-4 decision.  Facing Miami of Ohio Saturday morning, the Bucs fell 2-0, while in afternoon action versus Campbell, ETSU fell 6-3 in the contest.  Finishing action Sunday versus Rider, despite three hits by Lady Bucs outfielder Janine Sprague (Hillsborough, N.C.), the Bucs completed play with the 6-4 loss.

For the weekend, Sprague led the Bucs hitting .538 (7/13) with eight total bases in weekend competition, adding three RBI with four stolen bases for the tournament.  ETSU short stop Mary Beth Hazelwood (Knoxville, Tenn.) also posted stellar offensive numbers, her five hits and five total bases were second to Sprague, while she went 4-4 in stolen base attempts for the tournament.

Lindsay Lane (Erwin, Tenn.) was also a spark for the Bucs, both her offense and defensive performances were among team leaders.  Lane tallied two hits and two RBI for the tournament, while adding seven put-outs and seven assists as well.

From the pitching mound, Courtney Jenkins (Knoxville, Tenn.) pitched a team-high 11.1 innings allowing just three earned runs, while her 1.85 ERA for the weekend was also a team-low.

ETSU returns to action competing March 4-5 at the Charleston Southern Tournament from Charleston, S.C.  The Bucs will face Villanova at 12:00 p.m. in first-day action.  Visit ETSUBucs.com for game results and recaps.
