ETSU student-athletes put up strong numbers in the classroom

            JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (Jan. 5, 2005) - The East Tennessee State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to release several strong academic figures for the Fall 2004 semester.

           

            Seven teams posted cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or better, with those teams being men's tennis, women's golf, women's track and field, women's soccer, women's tennis, baseball and women's basketball. Women's golf topped the list of female teams with a 3.5 GPA, while men's tennis posted the best GPA of the male teams with a 3.45.

           

            In all, 173 Buccaneer student athletes combined for a semester GPA of 2.996. A total of 116 student-athletes had GPAs of 3.0 or better, with 30 eclipsing 3.75 and seven with perfect 4.0s.

           

             "When we talk about ETSU Athletics: Winning the Right Way, this is exactly what we like to see from our student-athletes," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dave Mullins. "Our players continue to succeed in the classroom and on the field. I am extremely proud of their efforts, as well as the efforts of those on our staff who work every day to help our student-athletes become more successful."
