ETSU plans events for National Student Athlete Day

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. (April 1, 2005) - The East Tennessee State University Athletics Department will be honoring its nearly 200 student-athletes next week with various events both on campus and throughout the community.  Members from all 16 varsity athletic teams at ETSU will take part in the week-long celebration of National Student-Athlete Day which will kick off Monday, April 4th, with a campus wide beautification event followed by a pizza and ice cream social honoring the Buccaneer student-athletes.

NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE WEEK

 

 

Monday, April 4

6 - 7PM Campus Beautification

Student-athletes will meet at the entrance to BucSports at Memorial Center and canvas the campus picking-up trash and improving the look of campus. 

7 - 8PM Pizza and Ice Cream Social

Pizza, ice cream, music and door prizes honoring all student-athletes in Memorial Center.

 

Tuesday, April 5

2PM and 4PM Softball Doubleheader vs. Winthrop at Metro Kiwanis Park

3:45 The Lady Bucs softball squad will host non-conference foe Winthrop with game one beginning at 2:00 p.m.  At the event, a free cookout for the student-athletes in attendance will highlight the afternoon.

 

Wednesday, April 6

10AM - 2PM Wellapalooza Health Fair

Student-athletes will participate at the Wellapalooza Health Fair near the Amphitheater outside the Culp Center volunteering their time.

 

Thursday, April 7

10:30AM Proclamation Read on National Student-Athlete Week

Dr. Bishop will read a proclamation honoring the student-athletes at ETSU and Athletic Director Dave Mullins will highlight accomplishments of our student-athletes this year in the Humphreys Center

 

 

Friday, April 8

9AM Andrea Walks

Student-athletes will participate in Andrea Walks with Andrea Bredesen, wife of the Governor, to raise awareness of Children's Advocacy groups.  The walk begins at Johnson City Medical Center at 9AM.  They will pass by the Dome en route to the Bristol Highway.
